Biography

Raymond Akalonu, FRMN Raymond Akalonu is a distinguished Nigerian risk management professional and Past President of the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSON). With decades of experience, he has played a central role in strengthening risk management practice, education, and advocacy in Nigeria. Under his leadership at RIMSON, the Society expanded training, research capacity, and international collaborations, raising Nigeria’s profile within the global risk management community. Akalonu has consistently used his platform to address pressing national risks. He has championed cybersecurity reforms, urging government to tackle rising cybercrime and strengthen data protection frameworks. He has also advocated flood mitigation strategies, calling for improved infrastructure, early warning systems, and community preparedness to reduce annual losses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he emphasized the importance of business continuity planning, remote operations, and disciplined risk culture for both the public and private sectors. He is also an active voice in shaping Nigeria’s insurance and regulatory landscape, describing reforms such as the Insurance Industry Reform Bill as vital to fostering innovation, protecting policyholders, and modernizing regulation. Widely respected for his thought leadership, Akalonu continues to influence policy and practice, promoting risk management as a critical tool for national resilience and sustainable development.
