Biography

Odunayo Bammeke, FRMN, FCII, FIIN Odunayo Bammeke is an accomplished insurance and risk management leader with more than four decades of experience spanning underwriting, claims, reinsurance, broking, and enterprise risk management. He began his career in Nigeria’s insurance sector, rising through technical and managerial roles before moving into industry leadership. He served on the Governing Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) and the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA), where he was Treasurer, helping shape policy and professional standards. In 2005, he was appointed the first General Manager for Group Risk Management and Insurance at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Over 14 years, he established and institutionalized NNPC’s enterprise-wide risk and insurance framework, overseeing complex risk portfolios in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector until his retirement in 2019. He currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Stanbic IBTC Insurance Brokers, providing governance oversight and strategic direction. Mr. Bammeke is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (London) and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. He holds an MBA and has completed advanced executive training at Harvard Business School, INSEAD, University of Texas (PETEX), American Management Association, Euromoney, and Lagos Business School. A respected mentor, he is also a Patron of YIPs Africa, where he supports capacity building and career development for young professionals in the African insurance industry.
