
Biography
Abbas G. Idriss, FRMN Abbas G. Idriss is the former pioneer Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Abuja (2013–2023) and a seasoned expert in disaster risk management and policy. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri, a Master’s in Disaster Risk Management & Development Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Development Studies from the University of Abuja. He also earned a Diploma in Crisis and Mass Disaster Management from the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel. Idriss has undertaken extensive local and international professional training, including with USAID, UK Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College, ICHARM Japan, Galilee Institute Israel, Lagos Business School, and various oil & gas and insurance seminars in Dubai and London. His expertise spans disaster preparedness, flood risk management, emergency coordination, water security, and crisis leadership. He is a Fellow of the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSON), the Institute of Disaster Management and Safety Science, and the Institute of Management Consultants. His contributions have earned him multiple awards, such as the FCT Administration Outstanding Leadership Award (2020), ONSA commendation (2021), and recognition as a Disaster Risk Management Icon by the University of Port Harcourt. Currently, Idriss is the CEO/Managing Director of Aygee & Hazards Consulting Ltd. and serves as the President of the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSON), where he continues to drive national conversations on risk governance, resilience, and crisis management in Nigeria.
